History:

The African football tournament started back in the 1990’s, by the late daddy-Robert from Gambia, Mousa from Zanzibar, Dr.Yousef from Kenya, Joe from Ghana, and Richard from Ivory Coast. After almost 20 years of existence, the tournament has now become an annual event many Africans look forward to. The notion that sports always bring people together, has been the driving factor behind this initiative for the founders. They decided to use the tournament as a mean to bring Africans and friends of the continent together during the summer. Thus, keen on this idea they sought out to organize a football tournament with teams representing different African countries. This is how this football tournament (African Cup Denmark) was born. It is now being run, since 2003, by the African Youths’ Sport & Cultural Club, with Mr Nana Fordjour as the chairman.

Thanks to the tournament, Africans in Denmark have something to look forward to, in summer, in terms of outdoor activities, families can enjoy together; it also provides an excellent opportunity for people to network and exchange ideas in a relaxing environment. The initiative is one of the main cultural events among Africans in Denmark and attracts a diverse crowd of different nationalities. Combine this with food, beverages, drums playing and the African spirit and you get a captivating atmosphere and a sense of mother land again. Many see it as our very own African Cup of Nation taking place in Denmark.

It has been an important part of the African community for almost 20 years and we should all help keep that tradition going. It is for all those reasons that Celebrate Africa is proudly endorsing this great event.
